What makes these gloves sustainable?

Every pair is built from chrome-free tanned leather and lined with eco-cashmere from recycled yarns. Chrome-free tanning eliminates heavy metal compounds from the production chain. The recycled cashmere closes the fibre loop by re-spinning yarn that has already completed a first product cycle. The construction method is unchanged: hand-cut, hand-stitched and finished in Naples.

Is chrome-free leather the same as vegetable-tanned leather?

No. Vegetable tanning uses plant-based tannins and produces a firmer, thicker leather that develops a pronounced patina. Chrome-free tanning uses alternative synthetic agents that achieve the same softness as chrome-tanned leather, without the chromium. The result is supple nappa that looks and feels like conventional leather, with a cleaner production process behind it.

What is eco-cashmere?

The eco-cashmere used in this collection is spun from recycled cashmere fibres. Yarn that has already completed one product cycle is recovered, re-processed and spun again into cashmere that retains its warmth and softness. In select models, eco-cashmere forms the outer body of the glove, not just the lining.

Is chrome-free leather as durable as conventional leather?

Chrome-free leather is designed to match the longevity of chrome-tanned nappa with standard care. The tanning process differs, but the finished leather retains the softness and wearability expected from a handmade Gala Gloves product. As with any leather glove, regular conditioning and proper storage are the key factors in long-term durability.

How do I care for chrome-free leather gloves?

The same way as any leather glove. Reshape after each wear, store flat or stuffed with tissue paper, clean with a soft cloth, and condition the leather once or twice a season. Chrome-free leather responds to standard leather care products. Avoid prolonged exposure to water and direct heat.

The Men's Sustainable collection applies the same Neapolitan hand-stitched construction that defines every Gala Gloves product, but builds each pair from materials chosen for a lighter environmental impact. The craftsmanship is unchanged. The tanning is not.

Chrome-free leather: Every pair uses nappa tanned without chromium, removing heavy metal compounds from the production process. The leather retains the softness, durability and hand-feel of conventional nappa, with a cleaner production chain behind it.

Eco-cashmere from recycled yarns: The lining is made from recycled cashmere fibres, closing the material loop at the stage closest to the hand. In select models, eco-cashmere forms the outer body itself, with a chrome-free leather palm placed where daily grip and pressure occur.
