How our gloves are made

  • OUR HANDS CRAFT FOR YOUR HANDS

Our artisans religiously observe the ancient rites of the Neapolitan glove-making tradition. All the production steps are followed scrupulously and diligently so that no detail is missed out.

The attention to detail, the nuances of the leather and the perfect imperfection of every single piece, make Gala Gloves artisanal leather gloves exude sophistication and luxury.

Every pair is conceived to wrap around the hand like a second skin and not realise it is even covered.

In fact, to wear gloves by Gala Gloves, is to experience a highly emotional response, like an unexpected caress on the hands.

  • Our business boasts a vast selection of gloves and collections and, upon request, we will produce bespoke pieces in order to satisfy the needs of any customer, even the most demanding of them!

This type of flexibility makes the Gala Gloves brand greatly appreciated with our homegrown fashion shops as well as international stores, and as such, our gloves adorn the shop fronts of the best stores in Italy, the UK, Ireland, Japan and the USA.

  • The road we wish to take is precisely this one: to promote the Made in Naples  artisanal glove making tradition, both in Italy and around the world.

We want to demonstrate how quality and distinction can meet by following the dictates of the artisanal Neapolitan legacy whilst always keeping a watchful eye on modern techniques in constant evolution.

And this is the principle of “contemporary tradition” which accompanies us towards the future.

Gala Gloves leather gloves are made according to the Neapolitan glove-making tradition which involves a long and rigorous manufacturing process made up of 25 different steps.

The first 3 steps are those that we are committed to respecting in a rigorous way, despite requiring more time and dedication, despite those who, in recent years, prefer to use faster techniques at the expense of quality and lack of adherence to the true Neapolitan glove-making tradition.

It starts with the tanning and dyeing of the animal hides in large drums which are left to soften to their natural state. This is typical of the Neapolitan tanning tradition which will never diminish with time. This is followed by the choice of leather for each single pair of gloves.

A very important action that requires a certain sensitivity because it will be the material, with its possible defects to hide, that will define the model to be made.

It is as if the glove design were already imprinted into the leather. A bit like a piece of marble used by Michelangelo. The artist has already decided his limitations to get the best from every single part of the marble.

In this phase each leather hide is stretched and examined with care. The best parts of the leathers with minimal pore exposure, become the main body of the glove as it takes shape.

Another very delicate phase is the cutting of the leather that the master crafters from Gala Gloves still perform with scissors. The chosen leather is spread and examined with meticulous attention to detail by the cutter who can then evaluate where to make the cut.
